SOFTWARE WE USED
Business Needs

The pepco substation project was subcontracted by Black and Veatch to Tejjy with the following project requirements:

  • Laser scanning of the facility
  • Transitioning point cloud data into MicroStation
  • As-built modelling of the facility
  • Develop HVAC design with permitting for regulatory compliance.
Challenges

This was quite a complex as-built modeling and designing requirement, and Tejjy’s scan to BIM plus design team was presented with the following challenges:

  • Data transfer between systems necessitates intricate coordination.
  • An HVAC design that complies with site-specific criteria is required.
  • Safety against arc flash accidents, which endanger workers and equipment, must be given top priority in substation design.
  • Outdated Workflows and Technology in the Era of Smart Grids and On-Site Energy Generation.
  • Insufficient planning, site evaluation, and equipment sizing.
  • Instrumentation equipment, switchgear, and both high and low voltage equipment are particularly vulnerable to dust and extreme heat.

Our Solutions & Approach

Tejjy used a Leica 3D laser scanner to accurately capture the site conditions, which was then utilized to develop the digital model in Revit and AutoCAD formats.

For a resolution on the above-mentioned problems, Tejjy utilised its experience of utilities design with the following approaches:

  • Leica’s RTC 360 was being utilised for laser scanning to capture precise and accurate on-site facility data.
  • Convert point cloud data into MicroStation for assisted design intelligence on further modelling out the acquired data.
  • Devising a codes-compliant and optimised HVAC design and permitting documentation process for resolution on the problems stated.
Business Impact

With our scan-to-model efforts, Black and Veatch was able to fulfil the client’s requirements with the following:

  • Enhanced project accuracy with minimised errors and delays.
  • Regulatory-compliant solutions improving reliability and client trust.
